Effects of child-care teachers` awareness of play therapy on their job satisfaction

Abstract
This study is to examine the effects of child-care teachers¡¯ awareness of play therapy on their job satisfaction and it is conducted with the following research questions. First, are there differences in child-care teachers¡¯ awareness of play therapy depending on their sociodemographic variables? Second, are there differences in child-care teachers¡¯ job satisfaction depending on their sociodemographic variables? Third, what are the influences of child-care teachers¡¯ awareness of play therapy on their job satisfaction? The subjects of this study were 216 child-care teachers who work for child-care center in Gwangju city and Jeollanam-do province, Korea. Data collected were processed with frequency analysis, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. The results of this study are as follows. First, the child-care teachers¡¯ awareness of play therapy was higher in understanding and practice of play therapy by teachers at infant/toddler care centers and in using play therapy by teachers with teaching career of 16 to 20 years. Second, the child-care teachers¡¯ job satisfaction related to working environment was higher in teachers who work at incorporated child care center and child-care teachers working in urban area showed higher job satisfaction in relation to director of the center and working environment. Third, in the influences of child-care teachers¡¯ awareness of play therapy on their job satisfaction, the effects, understanding, introduction and reeducation of play therapy had the positive influences on their job satisfaction.
